蔡廷兰（1801～1859），字香祖，号郁圆，学者称秋园先生，澎湖人。幼颖异，十三岁补弟子员，屡试第一，深得澎湖蒋镛欣赏，清道光二十四年（1844）中进士。蔡廷兰诗工古体，文善四六。曾佐通判蒋镛纂《澎湖续编》。光绪四年（1878）金门林豪为之集成《惕园古近体诗》二卷，骈体文、杂著各若干卷。《惕园古近体诗》今未见，以下据蒋镛《澎湖续编》、林豪《澎湖厅志》、连横《台湾诗乘》、赖子清《台湾诗醇》、彭国栋《广台湾诗乘》、陈汉光《台湾诗录》、许成章《高雄市古今诗词选》编校、增补之。（江宝钗撰）
