元明间宣城人，字友初，一作有初。师泰侄。以胄子除簿尉，有刚直名。后补闽省理官。明洪武初，征录师泰后，大臣有以性之荐，乃避居山阴，更名悦。其从弟仕于朝者，迎归金陵、宣城，俱不往。躬耕自给，以终其身。门人私谥真晦先生。有《南湖集》。
