淮南小寿山谨使东峰金衣双鹤，衔飞云锦书於维扬孟公足下曰：“仆包大块之气，生洪荒之间，连翼轸之分野，控荆衡之远势。盘薄万古，邈然星河，凭天霓以结峰，倚斗极而横嶂。颇能攒吸霞雨，隐居灵仙，产隋侯之明珠，蓄卞氏之光宝，罄宇宙之美，殚造化之奇。方与昆仑抗行，阆风接境，何人间巫、庐、台、霍之足陈耶？
昨於山人李白处，见吾子移白，责仆以多奇，叱仆以特秀，而盛谈三山五岳之美，谓仆小山无名无德而称焉。观乎斯言，何太谬之甚也？吾子岂不闻乎？无名为天地之始，有名为万物之母。假令登封禋祀，曷足以大道讥耶？然皆损人费物，庖杀致祭，暴殄草木，镌刻金石，使载图典，亦未足为贵乎？且达人庄生，常有馀论，以为斥鷃不羡於鹏鸟，秋毫可并於太山。由斯而谈，何小大之殊也？
又怪於诸山藏国宝，隐国贤，使吾君榜道烧山，披访不获，非通谈也。夫皇王登极，瑞物昭至，蒲萄翡翠以纳贡，河图洛书以应符。设天纲而掩贤，穷月竁以率职。天不秘宝，地不藏珍，风威百蛮，春养万物。王道无外，何英贤珍玉而能伏匿於岩穴耶？所谓榜道烧山，此则王者之德未广矣。昔太公大贤，傅说明德，栖渭川之水，藏虞虢之岩，卒能形诸兆联，感乎梦想。此则天道闇合，岂劳乎搜访哉？果投竿诣麾，舍筑作相，佐周文，赞武丁，总而论之，山亦何罪？乃知岩穴为养贤之域，林泉非秘宝之区，则仆之诸山，亦何负於国家矣？
近者逸人李白，自峨眉而来，尔其天为容，道为貌，不屈已，不干人，巢、由以来，一人而已。乃蚪蟠龟息，遁乎此山。仆尝弄之以绿绮，卧之以碧云，漱之以琼液。饵之以金砂，既而童颜益春，真气愈茂，将欲倚剑天外，挂弓扶桑。浮四海，横八荒，出宇宙之寥廓，登云天之渺茫。俄而李公仰天长吁，谓其友人曰：吾未可去也。吾与尔，达则兼济天下，穷则独善一身。安能餐君紫霞，荫君青松，乘君鸾鹤，驾君虬龙，一朝飞腾，为方丈、蓬莱之人耳？此则未可也。乃相与卷其丹书，匣其瑶琴，申管、晏之谈，谋帝王之术。奋其智能，愿为辅弼，使寰区大定，海县清一。事君之道成，荣亲之义毕，然後与陶朱、留侯，浮五湖，戏沧洲，不足为难矣。即仆林下之所隐容，岂不大哉？必能资其聪明，辅其正气，借之以物色，发之以文章，虽烟花中贫，没齿无恨。其有山精木魅，雄虺猛兽，以驱之四荒，磔裂原野，使影迹绝灭，不干户庭。亦遣清风扫门，明月侍坐。此乃养贤之心，实亦勤矣。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
