同样的蛾眉月，但下弦之月就不如上弦月好。就像那愁苦之时下垂的眉毛不如欢乐时上弯的眉毛好一样。被滞留在北国的庾信年纪未老，为何过早地开始伤心呢？
白色墙壁上落下月亮的余晖，竹影在窗棂间轻轻摇曳。相思的人独守空闺，直到乌鸦声起、清晓将至，月亮也落下来了，徒留一人对影凭吊。
注释
一种：犹言一样、同是。蛾眉：蚕蛾的触须弯曲细长，故用以比喻女子的眉毛。此借指月亮。
下弦：指农历每月二十三日前后的月亮。初弦：即上弦，指农历每月初八前后的月亮，其时月如弓弦，故称。古人以蛾眉代指女人的眉毛，又以上弦、下弦之月代指女人的眉毛下垂或上弯。
庾（yǔ）郎：即庾信，南北朝后周人，骈文写得尤好，著有《伤心赋》，伤其女儿与外孙相继而去时的悲伤。词人二十三岁丧妻，故以庾信自况。
素壁：白色的墙壁、山壁、石壁。斜晖：指月光。
乌啼：乌鸦鸣叫。又下西楼：指月落。

点绛唇·一种蛾眉创作背景
这首《点绛唇·一种蛾眉》是词人于第一任妻子卢氏难产死后所作，是一首悼亡词。卢氏才貌双全，知书达理，性情温雅，与词人恩爱情笃，故其死后，词人悼亡之音破空而起，这首词便是词人在《饮水词》中悼亡卢氏的一首代表作。
点绛唇·一种蛾眉鉴赏
这首词汪刻本有副题《对月》。从词中所抒写之情景看确是一首对月伤怀、凄凉幽怨之作。
词的上阕从“一种蛾眉”写起，一语双关，既是言月，也是言人。从月解，蛾眉，自然指蛾眉月。“下弦不似初弦好”说的是下弦月不若上弦月出现在满月之前，它出现在满月之后，故而残缺，虽同是蛾眉，却是寄了无限的哀伤；另下弦夜半后现，自是词人伤心难寐，辗转反侧思念旧人的时分，从人解，此处便是说那下垂的眉毛不如上弯的眉毛好，即愁苦之时的眉毛不如欢乐时的好，意思是说此时的离怀愁绪不如欢聚之快乐。而此处下弦也所暗指词人续娶的妻子官氏，初弦则暗指死去的卢氏，体现词人对官氏的不满和对卢氏的痛惜与怀念。词人如此作法，可谓婉曲而哀怨。“庾郎未老，何事伤心早。”庾信因《伤心赋》而著名，而词人二十三丧妻，此处以庾信自比，感慨自己虽未老去，却过早的伤心了。故自问“何事伤心早。”
词的下阕转以景语出之，化情思为景句，又含蕴要眇之至。“素壁斜辉，竹影横窗扫”这一句采用了白描的手法，物象并没有任何的感情色彩，却带出了深长而清淡的意境：冷冷清辉，清清素壁，窗前竹影横斜，深浅摇曳，似人有无尽心事。纳兰性德似乎一辈子都为心爱之人委婉缱绻，“空房悄”便是词人对死去的妻子卢氏的追思了。“乌啼欲晓，又下西楼了。”又是一个不眠之夜，听乌啼，看残月西沉，空对素壁，孑然影吊。想蛾眉何在，下弦月残独凭吊，自然不如上弦月时，共剪窗烛罢。然而房空人去，只有独自叹息了。此句应为通篇词眼，流露出词人的满怀愁绪。
这首词先是采用了联想和比喻两种艺术手法，用“蛾眉”、“下弦”、“初弦”等形象隐喻所思之人的情貌，清新而婉曲地表达了词人对所思之人的爱慕和怜惜。又自比古人，用庾信点出自己的哀痛和思念。而后以景语出之，化情思为景句，又含蕴要眇之至。结尾处又用“空房”、‘乌啼“、”又下西楼“等凄婉意象，表达了词人内心的寂寥与幽怨。
同时该词的特点是短小而精致深长，言辞清淡而意蕴深远，这表现为词人所用的意象都是冷色调意象，带出的意境清素而凄婉，渲染的氛围凄清冷寂，处处点化出词人的思乡怀人之愁。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
