春朝刚过，又到了秋宵时节。春花秋月，什么时候才是个尽头啊！鲜艳美丽的花儿到了季春时节，色彩逐渐消退；每月十五过后，月亮就不再显得那么皎洁。月残花落，实在令人伤感不已啊！
注释
拨不断：曲牌名。又名“续断弦”，属双调宫曲调。此调流行于南宋和元代。全曲六句，基本句式为三三七七七四，押三平韵三仄韵。
恰：才，刚刚。
春花秋月：春天的花朵，秋天的月亮。泛指春秋美景。
三春：春季的第三个月，即季春时节。消：消失，减退。
落（lào）：零落，凋谢。这里是韵脚。

拨不断·自叹创作背景
王和卿生活于金末元初，和关汉卿同一时代。当其时，元蒙贵族对汉族士人歧视，战乱造成人们生活的颠簸，加之科举的废置，又堵塞了仕途，因而大部分知识分子都怀才不遇，“沉抑下僚”。这首散曲就是创作于这种背景之下，大致时间当在元代初期，而具体年份未得确证。

此曲由叹时光流逝之迅疾而生“月残花落”之深慨，抒发了一种老大无奈的伤感情绪，自叹亦复叹人。春花易逝，秋月无常，表达了作者对于人生与世事的伤感心理。作者巧妙自然地借用李后主之《虞美人》词结合自己眼前的情与景，抒发了他对当时社会和人情世故的不平和不满之意，流露出他对仕途坎坷的愤懑与悲哀之情。若就诗意看，无非如此，似不足誉扬。但就内容表现而言，此词有一种令人感到似浅似深，似熟似生的效果。浅者，是因为“诗里落花，多少风人红泪”，人们已经见得很多了。而月残花落虽相似，各有心酸各有情。王和卿的这首小令从头到尾，春花秋月一路写去，别无一点“人事”的描述，其意旨归趣显得含蓄不明，这就不禁令人产生似熟还生、似浅还深之感，并由此而生吟咏的兴趣、索解的心理。
若就律艺方面而言，这支小令六句六韵，由“春”、“秋”而衍“花”、“月”，然后似轱辘蝉联而下，一脉贯通。曲中“春”字、“花”字、“月”字各出现三次，“秋”字出现两次，春、秋、花、月，反复吟唱，造成一种宛转流畅、回环往复之美。在全曲短短三十一字中，两用对偶，一为工对，一为流水对，整饬中又富于变化，显得和顺谐畅。同时用典自然浑化，若出己手，这一切却又使得它流光溢彩，具有了不可或缺的艺术价值。
生活在金末元初的王和卿，散曲作品并不多，既有滑稽调侃，粗俗嘲谑之风，也有空灵之作，如这首小令。但无论哪类作品，皆颇具特色。其题材、风格之多样，也可以说预示了元代散曲多元发展的端倪。

王和卿， 元代散曲家。大名(今属河北省)人，生卒年字号不详。《录鬼簿》列为"前辈名公"，但各本称呼不同，天一阁本称为"王和卿学士"，孟称舜本却称他为"散人"。他与关汉卿是同时代人,而又比关汉卿早卒。明·朱权《太和正音谱》将其列于“词林英杰”一百五十人之中。现存散曲小令21首，套曲1首,见于《太平乐府》、《阳春白雪》、《词林摘艳》等集中。
