译文
钱塘江风景从古至今都可称为奇丽，按照惯例，太守都能用诗词表情达意。我这个背负弓弩的先驱在哪里？我的心已飞到钱塘江以西。
春花落尽之后，绿叶翻飞之时，细雨凄凄。眼下我正怀着怎样的一腔情绪？怎敢面对新官，向着旧官的背影哭哭啼啼！
注释
①诉衷情，词牌名，唐教坊曲。唐温庭筠取《离骚》“众不可户说兮，孰云察余之中情”之意，创制此调。双调四十四字，上下片各三平韵。
②迓（yà）：迎接。元素：杨绘，字元素，绵竹（今属四川）人。宋仁宗皇祐年间中进士及第。宋神宗熙宁七年（1074年）六月，自应天府（今河南商丘）移知杭州，八月到任。述古：陈襄，字述古，号古灵先生，侯官（今福建福州）人。北宋理学家、“海滨四先生”之首，宋仁宗、宋神宗时期名臣。宋神宗熙宁七年（1074年）罢任杭州知州，赴陈州任知州。
③“太守”句：傅干注：“白乐天（居易）为杭州太守，善诗。初，乐天为苏守，刘禹锡以诗寄乐天云：“苏州太守（当作“刺史”）例能诗，西掖（yè）吟（当作“今”）来替左司。”
④先驱负弩：指在前面迎候的官员。出自《史记·司马相如列传》：“天子以为然，乃拜相如为中郎将，建节往使。……至蜀，蜀太守以下郊迎，县令负弩矢先驱，蜀人以为宠。”负弩（nǔ）：背着硬弓。弩，用机械发射的弓。
⑤誓江西：誓江作浙江，这里指钱塘江。西，向西面飞，此处活用为动词。
⑥若为情绪：等于说何以为情，或难以为情。按此句与后二句为倒文，应当依照“更问新官，向旧官啼，若为情绪”这一语序来解释。
⑦更问二句：原南朝陈代乐昌公主诗：“此日何迁次，新官对旧官。笑啼俱不敢，方验作人难。”按“新官”指后夫隋越国公杨素，“旧官”指前夫陈太子舍人徐德言。 “更问”二句，互文，“新官”、“旧官”前后互相包涵。“向旧官啼”，当是“新官对旧官，笑啼俱不敢”的省文。

诉衷情·送述古迓元素创作背景
宋神宗熙宁七年（1074年）七月。杭州知州陈襄罢任，新任知州杨绘正在赴杭州途中，杭州官妓前往苏州迎接杨绘，苏轼作该词描绘迎接的场面。

诉衷情·送述古迓元素鉴赏
上片分两层。前两句为一层，写对杭州风光和长官诗才的赞赏。“钱塘风景古来奇”一句，是对杭州美景的高度概括，涵盖了时、空两个方面，用一个“奇”字点明了它的审美特征。杭州是两个太守做官的地方，从这里落笔来写就十分自然了。接着，由地方写到长官：“太守例能诗。”这句由唐诗“苏州刺史例能诗”变化而来，移用于唐时在杭州交接的新、旧太守，便很精切。旧太守陈襄是位诗人，在杭州与苏轼多有唱和，有《古灵集》存世。新太守杨绘也是位诗人，原有集，已佚，《全宋诗》尚收其诗十首。杭州“太守例能诗”，后来成了佳话，连苏轼本人也包括在内了（苏轼在宋哲宗元祐年间出任杭州知州）。后两句为又一层，写对迎候新太守的场景的想象：走在前面迎候新太守的官员在哪里呀？我的心已经从钱塘江向西飞去了。因为杨绘取道西面的苏州，所以词人说“心已誓江西”。两句通过想象和心理描写，显示了迎接新太守的热情和真诚。
下片借当前萧瑟凄凉的秋景，烘托送旧迎新时难堪的情绪。“花尽后，叶飞时，雨凄凄”三句，描写了秋天花谢叶落，苦雨淅沥的景象，渲染了萧瑟凄凉的浓厚气氛。如此着笔，完全是为了烘托送旧迎新时的难堪：“若为情绪，更问新官，向旧官啼。”意思是说，还要问一问两位太守，当新官面对旧官，杭妓哭笑不得的时候，你们的感受如何呢？其所以如此问，是因为唐宋时赴任迎任，有官妓为先导的风习。这里运用了乐昌公主破镜重圆的典故，却作了“质”的改造，使原来的“悲剧”变成了“滑稽剧”。试想对身为官妓的“杭妓”来说，前任“旧官”与后任“新官”杭州太守哪里是什么前夫、后夫？既然如此，又哪里谈得上什么哭笑不得！词人这样写，只是一种游戏笔墨，向两位同僚寻寻开心，从另一角度看，也可以说是友谊的一种表示。
全词围绕着送旧官、迎新官来写，且采用用典的写作手法，既赞美了风景，又有对人物的评价和细致的心理刻画。虽是应酬之作，但表达得很风趣，也没有阿谀之情。

苏轼（1037－1101），北宋文学家、书画家、美食家。字子瞻，号东坡居士。汉族，四川人，葬于颍昌（今河南省平顶山市郏县）。一生仕途坎坷，学识渊博，天资极高，诗文书画皆精。其文汪洋恣肆，明白畅达，与欧阳修并称欧苏，为“唐宋八大家”之一；诗清新豪健，善用夸张、比喻，艺术表现独具风格，与黄庭坚并称苏黄；词开豪放一派，对后世有巨大影响，与辛弃疾并称苏辛；书法擅长行书、楷书，能自创新意，用笔丰腴跌宕，有天真烂漫之趣，与黄庭坚、米芾、蔡襄并称宋四家；画学文同，论画主张神似，提倡“士人画”。著有《苏东坡全集》和《东坡乐府》等。
