铁瓮城高，蒜山渡阔，干云十二层楼。开尊待月，掩箔披风，依然灯火扬州。绮陌南头，记歌名宛转，乡号温柔。曲槛俯清流。想花阴，谁系兰舟？
译文：在镇江城楼头、西津渡口，楼有十二层高入云霄。在楼上的阁房里，品着酒以待赏月，夜寒了，就放下帘子挡挡风。居高临下，看着黄昏时镇江城的万家灯火，就像看到了扬州城。于是想起了以前在扬州的一段欢娱生活。歌妓唱着《宛转歌》，很温柔，惬和人意。那座妓楼依河流而居，我曾乘着兰舟寻访美色。
注释：铁瓮：镇江（今属江苏）古城名，三国时孙权所筑。蒜山渡：蒜山渡口。干云十二层楼：镇江城楼有十二层高，故曰干云。干云：冲云。干，冲。开尊待月：斟上酒等待月亮升起。尊同樽，古代盛酒的器具。掩箔披风：放下竹帘，当风而立。箔，竹帘子。披风，挡风。披，本指分散，此处引申为遮挡。绮陌：纵横交错的道路。歌名宛转：指《宛转歌》，一名《神女宛转歌》。乡号温柔：即温柔乡。兰舟：即木兰舟。
念凄绝秦弦，感深荆赋，相望几许凝愁。勤勤裁尺素，奈双鱼难渡瓜洲。晓鉴堪羞，潘鬓点、吴霜渐稠。幸于飞、鸳鸯未老，不应同是悲秋。
译文：我估量着，自分别以后，你一定每每弹着凄凉的曲调，思念着我；而我呢，也每每吟哦着哀怨的词句，思念着你；山山相隔，我们相望了多少次都看不见，只能把愁恨凝聚在乐曲里和词章里。我屡屡想给你写情书，无奈山高路远，到不了你那边。清晨临镜，白发日渐见多，老态堪羞。有幸的是，你尚未见老，不应像我这样，为衰老而悲伤。秋，寓有衰老意。
注释：秦弦：即秦筝，古代弦乐器，音调凄苦。相传为秦时蒙恬所造。荆赋：指《楚辞》。楚，古称为荆。联系结句，知此指宋玉《九辩》。尺素：指书信，古代以生绢作书，故名。双鱼，指鱼形信函。瓜洲：在今江苏扬州南四十里长江边，隔岸与镇江相对，亦作“瓜州”。晓鉴：早起临镜。幸：幸亏之意。于飞：指夫妇好合。于飞，比翼而飞，喻夫妇好合。鸳鸯，指情侣或夫妇。悲秋：秋气萧森，令人伤感，故称。

秦观（1049-1100）字太虚，又字少游，别号邗沟居士，世称淮海先生。汉族，北宋高邮（今江苏）人，官至太学博士，国史馆编修。秦观一 生坎坷，所写诗词，高古沉重，寄托身世，感人至深。秦观生前行踪所至之处，多有遗迹。如浙江杭州的秦少游祠，丽水的秦少游塑像、淮海先生祠、莺花亭；青田的秦学士祠；湖南郴州三绝碑；广西横县的海棠亭、醉乡亭、淮海堂、淮海书院等。秦观墓在无锡惠山之北粲山上，墓碑上书“秦龙图墓”几个大字。有秦家村、秦家大院以及省级文物保护单位古文游台。
